Links for 8.26.08: Coldplay’s clothes, Blippr, Rihanna + Numa Numa…
by Josh Kimball
*After Muxtape: Muxtape was shut down by the RIAA last week; OpenTape and 8tracks are alternatives for those who cannot live without their playlists. [mashable]
*Shortness: Blippr is a twitter-like platform enabling micro-reviews of albums (and movies and games and books) – all reviews must be 160 characters or fewer. [idolator] Rather than lambaste the lobotomization of our list-loving, bullets-and-brevity culture, I prefer to embrace the rigor and rhetorical discipline engendered by services with character limitations such as twitter or blippr. It’s like sonnets or whatever, mfers.
*Politics: Bands playing at or around the Democratic National Convention include Rage Against the Machine, Death Cab for Cutie, the Black Eyed Peas and Kanye West.
*Fashion: Coldplay makes their own clothes.
*Hip-hop: Karl Lagerfeld loves rap. This makes me want to dress up. And I never want to dress up.
*Samples: T.I. and Rihanna sample the Numa Numa song on their latest single.
*Obit: Dr. Dre’s son, Andre Young, Jr. was found dead on Saturday; age 20. [spinner]
*Social Media: Everybody loves FriendFeed’s new Fake Follow. I would also like an algorithm that left innocuous, ambiguous (and seemingly relevant) comments on friends’ items at irregular intervals. [techcrunch]
*Trash talking: If you are employed and disgruntled, Glass Door lets you spout off. [psfk]
