Links for 2.4.09: Videogames as old books, Hipster run-ons, SWEARING…

*Mixed media: Era-swapping media mashups come to video games. Read up on these games imagined as old-timey books.

*Interviews: The Village Voice talks to Carles of Hipster Runoff, the man who inspired me to create a podcast. Turns out, I’m a shitty podcaster. (Did you know that on-air epigrams just create a whole lot of radio silence? FACT!) A quote from Carles, “I feel like the “Carles” part of HRO is insignificant, and it probably makes the site easier to digest without “some dude” attached to it. It’s more of a naive, bro-like, third-person omniscient tone.” [lots of people!]

*Affection: Kiss Me in 3-D allows shut-ins with 3-D glasses somehow on hand in their homes to pretend to kiss a three dimensional man or woman on their laptop screen. FUN? [pop candy]

*Machines: Ze Frank made a little application that lets you draw with your voice. Here’s what happens when you run some well-known music through it. [waxy]

*Cursing: If you like the eff word, you’ll love reading a transcript of Christian Bale’s recent expletive-filled on-set tirade. (Strongly recommended.)

*TV: Michel Gondry is slated to direct an episode of “Flight of the Conchords.” Throw in Radiohead and Kanye West and you have the four winds of the blogging world, all in one place. (Not sure what that means.) [spincity]

*Blogs: I don’t follow the inside blog game that closely, but it’s interesting that the company is spinning parent blog Babble’s spin-off from sex-blog Nerve as a strong sign for the baby. You’d think buy on sex and sell on sippy cups, but Babble just raised $2M in funding.

*Update: Like Dr. King said, I will overcome. I don’t think he was talking about me, though. And I now he wasn’t referring to my just being really tired.

Video: Ken Nordine’s Image Jazz

The music reminds me of scriball.

Links for 2.2.09: Live Nation Ticketmaster merger, Jonas Brothers downsize!?!?

*Mergers: The WSJ is reporting that Live Nation and Ticketmaster want to merge, creating Live Nation Ticketmaster. Good lord.

*Economics: It’s time to downsize a Jonas Brother. [This is fake.] (Is that the first time I’ve mentioned the Jonas Brothers on this blog? Despite my long-time personal interest in them? WAIT. WHAT?) [ypulse]

*Blogging: Carrie Fisher has a blog, and talks about her salad days. Or whatever. Wearing a metal bikini. That was plastic. [mefi - WHICH IS DOWN??]

*Household: Speaking of metal, they’ve been making the rounds, but maybe you need to brush up on your heavy metal laundry tips. “NEVER USE FABRIC SOFTENER ON METAL SHIRTS.” I have a classic Hawkwind shirt that my uncle gave me from First Avenue that is softer than the finest Corinthian leather. However, I have NEVER used fabric softener on it. Just gin. And smoke. And human hair. [lisanti]

*Posters: There’s a show of rock posters with Big Lebowski themes called “This Aggression Will Not Stand, Man: A Group Show of Prints Inspired by the Cult Classic The Big Lebowski.” [pop candy]

*Twitter: The New York Times offers up a visualization of people’s twittering keywords during the Super Bowl.

*Retail: Bruce Springsteen apologizes for giving an exclusive deal to Wal-Mart for his next album. “We were in the middle of doing a lot of things, it kind of came down and, really, we didn’t vet it the way we usually do. We just dropped the ball on it. Given [Wal-Mart's] labour history, it was something that if we’d thought about it a little longer, we’d have done something different. It was a mistake.”

*Musicians who Twitter: One of my most popular posts ever has been Musicians who Twitter (which is weirdly the top Google result for that particular search) . Now that old-boy’s (man’s?) club MBV covers the evolution of Twitter music postings, maybe we can all stop trying to look up musicians on Twitter. I’m just looking for peace in life. That’s it. Just peace.

*Metaverse: Busta Rhymes is debuting new music in Grand Theft Auto.

*I feel like I’m falling behind. Due to tiredness. Also, I think I need to stretch my legs a little. Bear with me, please.

Video: Tapes ‘N Tapes video tour diary

It appears that very few people are watching this video tour diary. Maybe because it’s boring to be on tour.

Links for 2.1.09: Journey’s Pineda, Norm Coleman and The Big Fix…

*The Economy: The economy is fucked. Here’s a long NYT magazine article on “The Big Fix,” Obama’s options in reforging America’s institutions.

*Journey: Arnel Pineda, Journey’s new lead singer, rocked the faces of America’s corporate elite at the Super Bowl pre-game. According to reliable sources. Well, sources.

*Mixes: The Daily Swarm interview’s Justin Ouliette on the new Muxtape – “If you’re a band, Muxtape will be the place to do all these things as a complete alternate to MySpace. Or if nothing else, as an alternative to having a web geek in your band.” Sorry, web geeks.

*Football: You can rate Super Bowl commercials at Thummit. (Re-watch them here, too.) [somewhat frank]

*Writing: Remembering John Updike at the New Yorker. I never knew him.

*Twitter: How Twitter Was Born.

*Local: Norm Coleman vs. Rod Blagojevich. Wow. “I can’t think of a good reason why Rod Blagojevich has become the most hated man in America while Norm Coleman still walks the streets with his head held high.” [minnpost]
