Video: Mashup of SpongeBob and Journey’s Arnel Pineda
Is this really the Arnel Pineda version of “Faithfully”? AM I REALLY OUT OF MY MIND?
Is this really the Arnel Pineda version of “Faithfully”? AM I REALLY OUT OF MY MIND?
*The Economy: The economy is fucked. Here’s a long NYT magazine article on “The Big Fix,” Obama’s options in reforging America’s institutions.
*Journey: Arnel Pineda, Journey’s new lead singer, rocked the faces of America’s corporate elite at the Super Bowl pre-game. According to reliable sources. Well, sources.
*Mixes: The Daily Swarm interview’s Justin Ouliette on the new Muxtape – “If you’re a band, Muxtape will be the place to do all these things as a complete alternate to MySpace. Or if nothing else, as an alternative to having a web geek in your band.” Sorry, web geeks.
*Football: You can rate Super Bowl commercials at Thummit. (Re-watch them here, too.) [somewhat frank]
*Writing: Remembering John Updike at the New Yorker. I never knew him.
*Twitter: How Twitter Was Born.
*Local: Norm Coleman vs. Rod Blagojevich. Wow. “I can’t think of a good reason why Rod Blagojevich has become the most hated man in America while Norm Coleman still walks the streets with his head held high.” [minnpost]
*Journey: Power ballad “Don’t Stop Believin’” is DOMINATING digital music. The Journey song is the biggest seller on iTunes. And though the Guardian says the band “has Tony Soprano to thank for it,” bloggers who watch their incoming traffic know the band has Arnel Pineda to thank for much of their online success. And that is a FACT. [licensing plate]
*MP3s: Live Nation will sell MP3s from Sony Music, Universal Music Group and EMI. [listening post]
*Concerts: One Radiohead concert filmed with 12 cameras. [largehearted boy]
*Neologisms: Thumbnail goggles – “Effect whereby a person seems more attractive in a thumbnail than in a much larger image or in person.” OK, so this is what I’m going for.
*Reviews: Says Rolling Stone of Guns N’ Roses’ “Chinese Democracy,” it “is a great, audacious, unhinged and uncompromising hard-rock record.” [fimoculous]
*Things people hate: The SlotMusic player costs only $20 and stores 1GB of music. If they start selling/giving away music-filled SD cards at McDonald’s, it could work.
*Backlash: Fuck Norris Facts. “Chuck Norris does not sleep. He passes out after two wine coolers.” [mefi]
*Blogging: Has Kanye West been stealing other people’s blog posts? And is he stealing from the people who have been stealing his music? Because that would give me a headache.
*Morphing: If Wu-Tang members were NBA players. Link comes complete with WICKED MORPHING FACES.
*Trips: It turns out, I am going to CES this year for the day job. Pray for my health, please. And my sanity. But mostly my health.
Despite quotes to the contrary in a recent issue of Rolling Stone (an American magazine that apparently covers music), Journey’s new lead singer, Arnel Pineda, does not hate being in the band. Quotes Rolling Stone: “It’s a fantastic job, but at the same time it’s a curse.”
Mr. Pineda said has comments about the “days I just break down and cry” were taken out of context.
And he is angry about it. Please stay tuned for more breaking Arnel Pineda news as it happens.
*Concerts: PEOPLE! LISTEN! Journey was in town last night. Review here, but word on the street is that a very young-looking Arnel Pineda “ran his fingers through his hair for 1.5 hours straight.” [jenna]
*Infographics: “The Gay Plot” shows the venn diagram of Out‘s Top 25 Gay Albums, Rolling Stone‘s Top 25 Greatest Albums and The Guardian‘s Top 25 Albums. Hint: The Velvet Underground. [tobs]
*Television: R. Kelly is a nutball. 19-year-old girls are inbounds, he reminds us via an interview with BET.
*Wi-fi: Zune owners get free wi-fi under the Golden Arches. I don’t got to McDonald’s and I don’t own a Zune. I’m just telling you this so you don’t think I only blog about shit I like. [medialoper]
*Reviews: Soulja Boy reviews the videogame Braid. New dances, videogame reviews – the man is indefatigable. And also, rich. And he has a lot of time on his hands.
*Internet stupidity: Rick Astley comments on rickrolling. [urlesque]
*E-mail: Sarah Palin uses Yahoo! mail. Weird? Also, I have it on good authority that she has a one-armed dentist. (Not kidding.) Related.
*Local: Husker Du’s Bob Mould is working on his autobiography. Additionally, I am too lazy to figure out umlauts. [earfarm]
From Monday night in Saratoga, NY. This is not Steve Perry. It is a 40-year-old dude from the Philippines.
A review of Journey’s new lead singer, Arnel Pineda of the Philippines, from the Hampton Roads: “His voice had an uncanny resemblance in tone to that of Perry, and it soared, hitting the high notes with ease, which was a challenging effort on passionate ballads like ‘Faithfully’ and ‘Open Arms.’”
Too bad it was not Arnel Pineda in there.
[urlesque]
I don’t know what that means, exactly, but the Deseret News must. Also: there is an image gallery of a recent Journey concert.
It appears that Mr. Pineda wears sneakers.
American Idol judge Randy Jackson finally weighs in on Arnel Pineda:
“The guy can sing.” THANK YOU.
